Hagen's 10th Annual Walleye Classic
On Saturday, May 6th 2006, Hagen's held it's 10th annual Walleye Classic at the
Snake Creek Recreation Area by Platte, South Dakota. With over 90 teams signing up
for the event, and a forecast calling for a clear and sunny day, every participant knew
that this years tournament was one not to be missed.
The Rules: $120 entry fee per boat/team. Must be paid and confirmed by 6:30pm on
May 5th. Only two people allowed per boat, and only two fishing poles were allowed
per person. Live bait or artificial was allowed, and all South Dakota state fishing
laws were to be followed in regards to daily limit and size. Prizes were awarded based on weight.
The first 50 boats to register, were the first 50 to leave the ramps at Dock 44.

The festivities started the night before, at the Platte Community Center.
Participating teams showed up to finalize their registration, get in on
the various games and door prizes, and of course the chicken dinner! The evening began
with light idle chatter amongst the fishermen. After a brief moment, a quick review of the rules
was gone over to refresh everyone's memory.

After a few minutes of catching up, Geri Beck (Director from the Avera Queen of Peace Foundation)
began the introduction for the next days tournament. After giving many thanks to Hagen's
for being a part of the yearly fund raiser, she pointed out some of the key aspects
surrounding the distribution of the funds raised in the tournament. All money raised
in the tournament were to go to the Avera Queen of Peace Hospitality House which provides a 'home away from home'
for patients receiving treatment from the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, or the
Avera Cancer Center. Patients that use the Hospitality house benefit from a home-like
atmosphere, without the burden of a long travel. Such patients may include people that
are receiving same day surgery, long-term hospital care, or women with pre-term labor.
For people that must travel a great distance to receive medical care by Avera's health
services, the Hospitality House is a great low-cost service offered to the patient and
their families. Dollars that were raised by the tournament are to be used at the house
for maintenance, furnishings, and any other general operating costs. We would like to remind everyone
that they can request information about the Hospitality House, or find out how they can help, by calling 605-995-2467.

After the introduction, it was time for door prizes and Calcutta! Hagen's contacted
various other big names in the industry, such as Mustad and Cabela's, to help support the event.
Our requests did not go unanswered, and the contributions filled the tables. Participants
won prizes ranging from fish weight scales to a Lowrance GPS System. Hagen's also did their part
and donated over 10 fishing rods. During the prize give-aways, Calcutta money was
being raised through auctioning off blocks of teams. Dollars raised were split between
bid winners, and the Avera Hospitality House.

The next day came as expected. A light breeze occasionally passed,
the sun slipped behind the clouds only every once in a while and there was a slight
chop on the water. With eager spirits and tackle in hand, fishermen launched their
boats at the 6:30am start time. Very few fishermen checked in earlier than the required
4:15pm stopping time and most teams ended up catching their limit. With 91 teams on the
water that day, it turned out to be a rather fruitful event for just about everyone.

Hagen's would like to thank everyone for joining the event, including
all the people that helped put things together behind the scenes. Overall, we
